This 300-bed Oncology Hospital in Lalitpur has been designed on a gently sloping site.
This acute care hospital has a total area of 140,000 sqft. The facilities planned are 9
MICU, 10 SICU, 11 Leukemia Wards, 10 Palliative Care, 2 Radiation Bunkers and
Brachy Bunkers. The design is oriented to attract essential daylight into the building
to keep heating loads minimal in the cold climate while providing desirable views of
the meadowed hills and snow covered peaks. This has been supplemented by the creation
of multiple terraces to help gather daylight into patient areas and corridors. The terraces
also act as congregation spaces for attendants of patients under palliative care. The master
plan incorporates a 25000 sqft existing building that already exists on the site. The
contours on the site have been used to minimise excavation keeping in mind the ecological
and construction challenges.
